Infinity Bridge – Stockton-on-Tees
Stockton’s Infinity Bridge at sunset. Not that you would know from this picture, but the Infinity bridge in Stockton-on-Tees is so called because of its shape. The arches rising above the walkway are intended to represent one half of the infinity symbol (a sort of figure 8 on its side), with the reflection of these arches then meant to complete the symbol and hence the name. This is best seen at night when the bridge lights up and the reflection is plainly seen, but I don’t want to show you that (perhaps in a later post after I’ve practiced some long exposure night photography). What I was more taken with this evening was the colourful sunset. I hadn’t intended to get any shots at all that day to be honest, since the sky had been overcast for most of the day, but around 5pm the clouds began to break and sun came out to play. I guessed that the conditions would be ideal for a vivid sunset and I took a short car ride over to the bridge to see what would happen and, well you can see the result below. I had to hang around for about an before the sky really began to light up, but when it did it was an breathtaking sight. Even the non-photographers walking by were stopping to admire the view. I was just pleased I was there to capture it.
